TESTIMONIALS FROM BUYERS

Dear Mary,

Just wanted to give you an update on Rusty (aka "Snip," named for the snip of white on his face).  He is thriving & growing, to the point where I can now pet him without even bending over.

I can't begin to tell you how happy we are with Snip.  He is so mellow, completely non-aggressive, great with other dogs and with children.  He loves to play with toys and is very enthusiastic, but just about the time we're losing interest, so does he.  He's very affectionate, but not pushy.  He's super-soft, and doesn't smell bad!  He LOVES to come when called -- sometimes I think he hides just so he can create a dramatic reunion.  He happily goes for long, rambling walks around the farm with us in the evening.  During the day, Snip sleeps.  This is wonderful, because it allows me to work.  I type away on the computer while he sleeps & sleeps.  He wakes up around 4:00, just when I'm ready to wind down.  It's as though we were made for each other.

He chases the cats (the 2 who run from him) but doesn't seem particularly intent on catching them.  The other 2 cats are his buddies.  I hope this continues!  I'm a little more concerned about the goose, but so far, so good.  He is on nose-touching terms with most of the horses, but they stay on opposite sides of the fence.

We've lost many shoes to Snip's big white teeth, but it's been a small price to pay for his companionship (although if you have any advice for how to put an end to shoe-chewing. . .).

Greg was the one who really wanted to get a dog -- particularly a Borzoi -- and I agreed somewhat reluctantly, knowing the care & feeding would fall to me.  What a great decision.  Snip is my best, furry friend and has added so much happiness to my life.

I just wanted to thank you for making this wonderful breed available, and for putting together apparently great bloodlines.  We don't know or care much about conformation or appearance (although we think Snip is gorgeous) -- we just know that this dog's personality is the best we've ever encountered.  Thank you!!

Snip continues to be entertaining:

Dear Mary.

I wanted to let you know how Moment So Thrilling (Aero) is doing. He is a lovely pup. I'm amazed at how intelligent he is. He learns things very quickly and has a wonderful sense of humor. He is always smiling about something, and is very affectionate with me and his mastiff buddies. He is also very outgoing and very little bothers him. After having various dogs over the years, I'd say he is unsurpassed in  intelligence and quality of temperament. And as sweet as they come. It's very obvious that you don't breed just for looks! He has everything. If I didn't already have two other dogs, I would be calling you for another puppy or two. I just adore him.

Thank you again for putting us together. I am very grateful.

Best regards,
Mary Kirst

Hi Mary,

We are very happy with Drop Zone; he is a wonderful boy. From the first day here, he behaved like he was always been here.
As soon he saw my two 9 years old daughters, he ran toward them and began to play. They were very proud. He really loves children. Last weekend we were celebrating our daughter's birthday. We had around 10 children in the house and Drop Zone played with them;  he had a lot of fun.

I had no trouble with my other dogs. When they come in the house or when we go with Drop Zone in the yard, he wants to play with them. Of course we have to watch them, but they seem to know that he is a puppy and play carefully. My Saluki runs and always jumps over him, very funny to watch. My old male, who was no longer playing before Drop Zone came here, begin to play again!!! I included a photo of Drop Zone and his new dog friends.

Thanks to letting me have him with us.  He is a great dog and we love him very much. (Ed.  Drop Zone aka Zorro is now a Canadian Champion)>

Mary,

It’s hard to express how happy we are with our new puppy! He’s wonderful.

We drove home with only about 10 minutes of chorus then he settled right down and slept. When we arrived in Fayetteville, Tim took him for a 30 minute walk, just the two of them. I took Rory’s travel blanket to our elderly dogs to sniff. (Taqa is a 13 year old malamute cross and Picasso is a 15 year old Irish wolfhound cross.) When Tim and Rory got back from their walk, Taqa’s response to him was, “Hmmm. OK, fine. Where’s my cookie?” Picasso’s was a bit of jealousy, trying to get between Tim and Rory, but also intense curiosity. And they’re all doing marvelously this morning.

Rory’s only trauma came when he met one of our big cats who promptly swatted him. Though Odin is very big and has a solid right cross, he doesn’t often use claws, so Rory was none the worse for wear. But now he shies away from any of the cats if they so much as peek at him. When he’s in his crate, the cats treat it like TV, gathering around to stare. He stares back.

One of the things that astounds me is how well this puppy walks on a leash. Other than a brief putting-on-the-brakes moment yesterday he wandered the neighborhood with Tim without any pulling (either in front of Tim or in back). That’s a huge benefit right off the bat.

He did well during the night – only 10 minutes of crying, then we covered the crate as you recommended (it was a very bright, moonlit night) and he slept all the way until 6:30 when he whimpered softly. Tim got up and took him out then we all cuddled in bed for a bit and he fell right back to sleep between us.

He had a bath this morning and mostly it was just an adventure for him. The water fascinated him. He didn’t so much care for the dryer but he settled down after a minute or so.

It’s safe to say that we’re totally in love with this healthy, happy, handsome puppy! And we’re trying Quill on him for size – he responds well to it and comes running when we call.

Thank you for the perfect Borzoi!

Peaceful Sunday,

Rachel and Tim

Mary,

Rory, now Quill, is doing fantastically well. We LOVE this dog. Tim and I have had dogs all of our lives, but never one who was so perfect at such a young age. Even when he has his naughty moments they’re innocent and (mostly) pretty funny.

Quill has adapted very well to living with cats. They’re training him, and he’s mostly obedient. He desperately wants to play with them, but knows that chasing and pouncing are strictly out. (Our big cat, Odin, helped us teach him those rules.)

We took him camping to Hatteras National Seashore recently – he was a perfect tent companion (though, thank goodness we have a large tent – he likes to sprawl). And he was an ambassador for the borzoi breed, greeting everyone politely. He was the perfect gentleman.

Quill goes to the veterinary hospital with me occasionally and says hello to his vast fan club. He’ll climb in anyone’s lap, walk with anyone, and play with any dog. A watchdog, he ain’t!

In short, thank you for a wonderful boy.

Here are some photos. Quill at the beach at 5 months of age – he loves the beach! Quill and his favorite stuffed animal – a wolf pup. And Quill at 7 months at Hatteras National Seashore.

Hi Mary,

WindnSatin Sheer Thrill of Rokaro aka Thriller put her handling and obedience classes to good use at the Aurora Kennel Club show, getting her first point under Judge Machen for BOS and Best Puppy. She is started in Agility, and did well in her obedience class.  She was extremely friendly to people and dogs, and was much admired.

Margery Armstrong handling.

Thriller picked up two more points and two reserves and Best Puppy at the Borzoi Canada Booster handled by Brian Wilson at the Limestone City shows. Next shows in Port Hope in September, and starting next level of Agility. Our usual training facility has closed, and Thriller is working at an individual unit and a group class.  She is doing well.

Stormy (Blueman). this is the pond in my yard . there is about 5 feet between the fence and the pond and he FLY S around it ..

I just wanted to send you an update on Bull Durham. We actually call him Odinn, and he is gorgeous. I took him out to Margaret Picone's so she could show me how  to groom him for his first show. I will be showing him in Greensboro, NC. We took some pictures, and I thought you might want to see him all groomed up.

Pinocchio at 18 months

Owned by Karen Stix...a gorgeous dog with a soft tangle-free coat

Pinocchio and his breeders deserve a more complete testimonial.  If one were to research the Borzoi breed on the internet, one would read that Borzoi are aloof, not good with small children, stubborn, and must be kept on a leash when outside a fenced yard.

Let me describe Pinocchio.  He is extremely intelligent, loaded with personality, a picture of glowing good health, and the most agile dog we've ever owned.  As a companion, he is perfection.  He is friendly with everyone, desires to please us, was easily housebroken,  walks beautifully on a leash without pulling, is very aware of his size, and never knocks things over in the house.  We have a large fenced yard, but Pinocchio takes walks with us around our property without a leash.  He is poetry-in-motion when he runs.  He loves his little 12 lb. Chihuahua mix housemate and enjoys touching noses with our rescued pot belly pig.  Even though our children are grown, he is gentle and sweet with small children when they visit.  We have taken him to festivals, parades and parties and he is calm and attentive.  He has an impish sense of humor and while he is very creative, he seems to know boundaries.  He doesn't shed any more than most hairy breeds, and his coat is so soft he's impossible not to cuddle.  Oh, and have we mentioned that he is magnificent looking?  We feel so lucky to have Pinocchio.  If you are researching breeders and choose a Wind'n'Satin or Del Sol puppy, (or breeders with these bloodlines) you won't regret it.
